Excerpt from Courting Trouble

‘You’re a bull in a china shop,’ she snapped. ‘Constantly pushing things out of your way. I didn’t have to come tonight, you know. You’re lucky you got anyone on such short notice.’

‘I’m lucky I got you.’

He closed the distance between them fast. He’d been fantasizing about finding her for weeks, but in his head, none of it had gone down like this.

It had gone like this.

He kissed her, his mouth closing over hers. Swinging an arm around her waist, he pulled her against him.

The sparks that had been flying combusted.

Fire and ice. It was all he could think as their mouths melded and their bodies squished tight. She fit him perfectly, soft curves cushioning all his hard places. She had an cool exterior, but God… the fire beneath the surface…

He swept his tongue along the seam of her lips, wanting access. She made one last fierce sound of protest, but then let him in.

The bottom of Jason’s stomach dropped out.

She liked to converse in French? He’d show her how the French really communicated. Pushing his tongue into her mouth, he laved at that sharp tongue that had just given him a lashing.

And she gave in.

A primitive growl left his throat.

He stroked his fingers deeper under her dress, but the damn cutouts were too small. He wanted to stroke his hands over her skin, fingers stretched wide and palms pressing firmly.

Her belly squeezed. ‘Jason—’

‘Shhh.’ He kissed his way down to her neck where he stopped to nuzzle. Everything about her felt good. Better than good. She was lighting him up.

He ran his tongue over the pulse pounding in her neck and stroked his hands down her back. Loose tendrils of her hair tickled his ear, and goose bumps popped up on the back of his neck.

One kiss. One kiss from her, and he was ready to explode.

Her laugh morphed into a moan when Dane settled his big, hot hand over her breast. He squeezed gently, lifting her in his palm. “I care, and I prefer the real thing.”

Noelle’s nipple hardened on the spot, and the ache traveled down directly to her core. “Why… why are you saying these things?” she asked.

They were hidden away together. Alone, with nobody around. There was no reason to keep up the act.

His lips curled into a somewhat embarrassed smile. “I guess you could say I’m hot for teacher.”

Her jaw dropped. Sexy men didn’t come on to her. She was pretty and she kept in shape, but she was low-key. Composed and self-contained. With her father’s high-profile job, she’d learned to live in the shadows. Handsome men like Dane didn’t tend to look outside the limelight for girls like her.

Yet when he leaned more heavily into her, she felt the evidence of his interest against her belly.

She propped her hands against his chest, and heat seeped into her fingertips. He was hard and muscled, yet she swore she could feel his heart pounding as hard as hers.

“But why?” she insisted.

“Why wouldn’t I be attracted to you?” he asked, flicking her nipple in chastisement. “From what I’ve seen, you’re sweet, giving, and adventurous. And in case you didn’t know it, you’re stunningly beautiful.”

He dropped his head and whispered into her ear. “I want to kiss you for real.”

Her hands were shaking as she smoothed her dress, making sure it covered her. “This shouldn’t have happened,” she said tightly. “It’s against the contract.”

His eyes narrowed. So this was his fault? “Really? Then why did you come out tonight without wearing any panties?”

The answer hit him like a ton of bricks. She was an escort. It was pretty damn obvious. How stupid could he be?

Her head snapped to the couple who walked by, oblivious. Lowering her voice, she hissed. “I did wear panties.”

“The invisible kind?”

“No,” she snapped. She lifted a hand to her forehead and looked anywhere but at him. “I had to leave them in the ladies’ room.”

“Why?”

The look she sent him was at once woeful, discomfited, and fuming. It was the most honest she’d been all night.

And it made Jason’s erection nearly jump out of his pants.

She wasn’t a slut; she was a prim good girl whom he’d made wet – before he’d even kissed her. Before he’d even touched her for real. Had all those little brushes and strokes been enough to get her juices flowing?

Testosterone pumped through him.

Oh, yeah. They had something going on here.
